Feasibility Study on the Cooperation Zurich - Freetown

The City of Zurich and the City of Freetown in Sierra Leone agreed in 2019 to enter a City-to-City cooperation with the aim of jointly tackling urban development challenges in Freetown through the exchange of experience and by implementing concrete projects. The cities agreed to focus their collaboration on the regeneration of Freetown’s City Center.

EBP together with Helvetas were mandated to conduct a feasibility study for this cooperation. The study provides recommendations on how the cooperation between Zurich and Freetown should be established and structured and how the scope of the regeneration of Freetown’s city center could be enhanced.

In a second phase, EBP and Helvetas supported the two cities in starting up the collaboration, formulating a detailed cooperation concept and identifying an implementation partner in Freetown.
